About the Artist

Lorraine Dopson received her bacheor’s degree in Art at Jamestown College. Though she worked on watercolors for years, much of her career was counseling, writing, and supporting art projects. She began focusing on her own art after the death of her husband, Richard Arazi.

Pastels are her medium of choice because of their vibrant colors and versatile convenience. Dopson appreciates the support that she’s found in local galleries. A member of the Bismarck Downtown Artists’ Cooperative, she frequently shows her work there. Her pieces have also been on display at The Capital Gallery, Bismarck Art & Galleries Association, and the Southern California Pastel Association annual art show.

Recently, Dopson began creating abstract backgrounds with India ink, then using pastels to define and enhance the shapes that emerge. While landscapes are her first love, exploring new spontaneous approaches is exciting. Now she balances her time between getting older, slowly downsizing the house, painting as much as possible, and spoiling her pets, Taz and Marigold. She enjoys winter getaways visiting her son and daughter-in-law in Los Angeles, California.
